This has to be one of the best buys of COVID 19 if you have mega bucks and space to keep a Group B rally car… Check out this ebay listing for a MG Metro 6r4 for sale.
One of the original cars from 1985 and used by Austin Rover Group for counting into group B. This numbered car was built as a lightweight shell with extra holes in the slam panel and inner front wings. Returned back to the Austin Rover storage yard and unused the car was sold at the time of the group B ban minus its vin plate (as most were at the time of the ban of group B) to an existing race / rally team as a rolling shell. The car has moved on between owners but never been on the road or track and was retained for spare parts minus its original engine and gearbox.
The car was bought still as a rolling shell by the myself and sympathetically restored with a mind to keep as close as possible to the original ARG specification. A full photographic history of the strip down and rebuild is available. The car is now finished in original color paint work with many of the fiberglass panels been obtained from current molds. A fresh rebuilt 3ltr engine was obtained with new clutch and ECU from 6R4.com along with correct rebuilt front and rear differential. An original as new gearbox and drop box came with the car and checked over so the whole drive train is as original. Interior still retains the original dashboard and speedo with only 11miles shown on the clock while the original mouse eaten seats were recovered. Rear windows are original ARG. All suspension has been powder coated and the suspension struts have been stripped replated and rebuilt.
The car is as new condition and the bodyshell is in perfect order with no repairs and still retains the original allow roof skin with no marks. The car is up and running but would require a fine tune to complete with only a small amount of cosmetic work to finish off to make a very period example for collector.
Please note, that this vehicle has never been registered from manufacture for the UK roads and as such there is no V5.
As I have had experience of the other 6r4 road and rally cars I have no interest in driving this example and have chosen to keep it as an original collector’s car.
