It is reported today that the financially debt ridden breakdown service the AA is facing a new crisis; a lack of mechanics due to a change in working practice. Reported in This Money today the company is facing new challenges since three separate sources told the Mail that up to 160 drivers had quit over the past six to 12 months in the wake of the changes.
t is also fighting a court case with former executive chairman Bob Mackenzie who was sacked last year following a punch-up with a fellow executive.
One insider said: ‘It’s an extremely stressful job at the moment. We have got leavers like you would not believe.
Former AA boss was paid nearly £500,000 for six months’ work before he was sacked for punching a colleague during a company away day.
He was dismissed at the start of August after a fracas with Mike Lloyd, the insurance head, at a hotel in Surrey.
Although Mackenzie, 65, was not given a bonus, he still earned £469,000, down from £1.4million the previous year. He is suing the AA for £220million in lost bonus payments.
Successor Simon Breakwell, 52, will not be entitled to the same bonuses. He is paid a base salary of £700,000 – £50,000 less than his predecessor.
