The car has become an indispensable part in the everyday life of people in all countries all over the world. Till about 30 to 40 years ago, possession of a car was considered to be a luxury and as a status symbol. As industrialization progressed at a hectic pace and lifestyle also became faster, the need for quick transport became apparent. Therefore, possessing a car became necessary for speedy and efficient execution of day to day jobs. From the head of the family using the car, other family members also needed cars and in the present generation all adult members of the family are having cars of their own.
To the credit of the automotive manufacturers, it has to be mentioned that they have been developing more and more fuel efficient engines that result in less emission from the engines. As far as the industry is concerned with keeping their units going in the face of severe competition is of utmost importance. By being able to produce cars with less emission they get a definite advantage over others who fail to do so. New marketing techniques are being developed. In addition, there are markets in the developing and under developed countries where with suitable incentives, brands can establish the firm foothold. Recognizing this fact, all manufacturers are moving in that direction. Variety is necessary if any marketable item has to cater to various classes of society and people with different tastes. From the small car, used mainly for the movement, to the six door luxury models, there is a market all over the world.
Not all manufacturers have the setup for making a very wide range of cars. Therefore, they try other methods to market their cars. The words ”new” and “free” work like magic on the average man. They have been found to be extremely useful by marketing experts. To meet the competition, reduce costs, and establish a local presence, many companies from different countries have started establishing local units in the developing countries. These units may be part of their own set up or the result of joint ventures with local producers. This has helped not only to develop local markets but also for export to other countries. Export has become possible because of the lower cost of production and a sizable reduction in delivery cost. Though the process was started by the Koreans, the success achieved by them has induced all countries to go for local units.
